he Poeta Maragall Secondary School is located in the heart of Eixample in Barcelona. Taking advantage of the interior courtyard of the city block, the school has one single, small, fenced-in playground that is almost entirely taken up by a football pitch.
With the aim of creating new dynamics in playground usage, and in collaboration with a small group of teachers, we came up with terraced, modular and mobile stands that would be set up on the pitch a few days per week in order to allow the space to be used in different ways and for different activities.
Starting with this idea, we designed and constructed a modular mobile seating system that can be reconfigured in the space and adapted to different situations. They can be used as free-standing units or to make assembly bleachers. They can also be used as tables or can be incorporated into other kinds of recreation or relaxation.
